Got a double 1.75x16 microlam that will bear on top of a new microlam. existing is braced each side by floor joists and trusses. New one will be unbraced. New one is 18', with bearing point at 16' of exsting. Any suggestions for the connection, just some angle clips, or would you want something more significant. No uplift on the beam.

Well the end of the new beam needs to be braced at the supports at least. Even if it's just blocking. NDS requires as much.

If it's all gravity load, then minimum nails to keep it stable (along with some sort of blocking) should be sufficient. If there's much axial load in the beam for any reason you can put a Simpson framing clip angle on it.

Agreed with phamENG, the beam needs to be prevented from rotation at the supports/ends at a minimum.

Just realized this is in the earth retention forum? Stuff like this belongs in the Structural general or perhaps the wood materials forum - you'll get more traffic interested in the topic there.
