Hi all - this is my first time so please bear with me.
Can anyone tell me how to test a "Metrosil"
I am using it to try and reduce arcing on a DC contactor. It is one I found lying around the workshop and seemed to do the trick for a few months but now the arcing is getting worse again, and I'm not sure if the Metrosil is still OK.Is there a way of checking it so my boss may relent and buy a new one.
Thanks for your time

A Metrosil is a non-linear resistor designed to clamp voltages found in high energy equipment and in high impedance protection relay systems. For most Metrosils you will need a high voltage source capable of delivering a reasonable current in order to trace the V/I curve of the resistor. It would also help if you had the original curve to compare against. There are so many variations for different applications that just selecting one lying around seems a little risky.
