I would like to calculate mesh power loss, for that I need to measure mesh oil exit temperature in helical gears. What are the methods available to measure mesh oil exit temperature? I have made a setup to measure mesh oil exit temperature by mounting RTDs near mesh (on the bearing block of drive end and non-drive end of pinion shaft), so that the mesh oil would be sprayed on the RTDs, but the bearing oil is mixing with mesh oil.

Could anybody suggest better methods to measure mesh oil exit temperature accurately.

How to collect mesh oil separately to measure mesh oil exit temperature?

Please suggest

look at a meter function with a thermal coupler(temp probe), take a sample of the oil, at normal running operation.

check this out on youtube "AMSOIL Normal and Intermittant Oil Operating Temperatures"

You need to use baffles to deflect the oil from the mesh to your sensor and protect your sensor from oil from the bearing. Simple sheet metal baffles are sufficient for short term runs but you're going to want to do some vibration analysis for longer runs as you don't want the baffles breaking and getting into your gears. Gearboxes generate high frequency vibrations that quickly fatigue and break things.
