Merging Walls across Bend Lines

I am having trouble merging walls across bend lines. If I select the bend lines in the flat, the other side of the part loses its shape. If I don't select the bend lines and just use the flanges on the part, then there are little lines on the DXF in place of the bend lines. Please Help! Thanks
