Do some searches related to "liquid metal embrittlement".

You need to read this;
NACE 10294 Mercury Liquid Metal Embrittlement of Alloys for Oil and Gas Production and Processing
At near room temp (up to 140F) austenitic stainless alloys are resistant to Hg attack.

P.E. Metallurgy, Plymouth Tube

NACE Corrosion 2013, paper 2013-2519, would also make useful reading.
