Mechanical Tubing

Anyone ever used ASTM A513 Mechanical tubing for roof purlins? I have a friend trying to build a two-car carport and wants to use mechanical tube to support roof panels between HSS beams. I've got dimension data, just not sure about yield stress (Fy) or whether IBC permits/prohibits it.

Seems like a rather inefficient use of material.

Perhaps he just has some laying around, or easy (free) access to it?
