meaning of the b in ASME VIII div 2

Hello,

I would like to know what the letter "b" means in ASME VIII div.2 §4.12.11.1 Nomenclature.
It says "unit Width per cross section", but this is not clear for me what do they mean With this.

For me it looks like that they mean the cross sectional area, but i'm sure this i wrong since that is te A1 or A2.
