Assuming the minimum .5% steel ratio at the interface with the footing is being met do the vertical dowels in a pier still have a maximum spacing limitation like that specified for longitudinal column bars in section 7.10.5 of ACI?

Thanks!

@waytsh: Your post makes a reference to section 7.10.5, which deals with ties in compression members where as the subject heading of this thread says maximum pier dowel spacing.
See if thread507-311771 and thread507-280906 would help.

DST148, thank you for taking the time to answer. I guess I should have mentioned the ties as well. Specifically I was referring to Fig. R7.10.5 in ACI 318-08 and whether this spacing limitation (and the tie requirements) apply to the vertical bars in a foundation pier. I read through the links and they touched on this topic briefly in the first thread; however, there seems to be a difference of opinion.

@waytsh: There is no consensus on lateral ties in piers / pedestals. See if thread507-317067 would help.
