I am going to design two cast-in-place post tensioned concrete box girder bridges. The first bridge is 3 spans (56.7 ft, 69.2 ft, 51.5 ft) with a structure width of 120.5 ft. The second is a 2 span (125.6 ft, 155.1 ft)with a width that varies from 120.5 to 149.1 ft. I am looking for info on any maintenance problems with wide bridges (Temp & Shrinkage probs). I would like to avoid any longitudinal joints other than construction joints. I am aware of one publication, NCHRP 380 on cracks in bridge decks. Both bridges are in California (mild climate) no snow, but summers get hot. Does anyone know of other references? I also am interested in opinions as to whether the structures should be built as two parallel bridges with a closure pour for constructability reasons (less falsework, bidwells not made for 120 ft wide deck pours, etc.). I will appreciate any tips.
Thanks
