Hi all,
I need a bit of guidance here for mechanical design of indirect type oilfield heaters.
I'm designing an indirect heater based upon API 12K specification for a client.
API 12K essentially governs the material selections for shell, firetubes and process coils, which have to be ASTM / API carbon steel materials.
Our company, however, would like to build the indirect heater in ASTM stainless steel materials (part of company strategy).
My questions are:
1. Shall the build materials be strictly complied to the API 12K carbon steel criteria?
2. Are there any specific reasons API 12K limits the build material choice to carbon steel?
Many thanks,
Ivan
