Master or Workspace project???

I have a design team of about 7 users. I need to set up a method that we all can use on our server. They have no specified tasks and are often added and removed to a project as needed. Obviously semi-isolated project mode is my answer but,,
Whats the usable difference between the semi-isolated master or workspace project? The help file explains them both as the same. Designers check out and in parts in both.
