Masked Control / DB Connect

I am having a problem with a mask I want to put on a text control. It is for a telephone number in the standard US format. My masked control is linked to an Access database table. If I do not have any mask specified, I get the resultant record, but not in the format I want. As soon as I apply the mask, I get an 'unable to connect to db' error for that particular field.

I have a suspicion that it has something to do with the format of the field and the format of the masked control, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
