The first PE exam for Marine Engineers was given in 1999. It is called "Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering exam". 27 people took the exam in 1999, 21 in 2001 and 47 in 2002. It was not given in 2000. The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying recognized the Society pf Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) for increasing the number of examined persons.
