Anyone ever hear of this? Its kind of an NPO partially funded by the US government and set up in many states. Their goal is to help small manufaturing businesses in the US to make it.

I'm not sure exactly how they get paid or how they function.

Just curious if anyone has had any experience or heard anything about them?

I've seen it, a friend of mine worked for one. It's similar to the Agricultural Extension Service in function, except it's for manufacturers. It's basically a for-fee consulting group run by the state, paid for partially through tax funds. My friend loved it: he could pretend to be a Industrial Engineering consultant, but not have the risk of going it alone and have the backing of the state.

Last I heard he was still there. Loved it. My friend was very talented IE with a Master degree-equivalent from UK, loved playing consultant and helping people "who wanted to be helped." <== THAT is the key phrase. This gig was nice because all the risk and liability issues were handled by the state. Handy.

Tygerdawg,
This may be a stretch, but I figure why not ask.

If you are still in contact with the friend who works for the MEP, would it be possible for me to talk to or maybe even email, etc... this person to learn more about it, find out about the good, the bad and the ugly? I understand you might not feel comfortable asking him, you may be out of touch with him, etc.... No problem. I figured it can't hurt for me to ask.

If you want to PM me, you can do so through the site in my signature. I'm EdinNO over there.

If you don't reply, no problem. Maybe I'm overstepping my bounds anyway.

Sorry, HVAC, it is a stretch. I've since moved out of state and haven't kept up with him.
