We routinely rebuild Pulverizer/bowl Mill "journals."

Two of the grinding rolls/tires we received last week have curious features in the bores.
Instead of the two typical smooth bands with a relief in the middle, these rolls have what look to be serrations cast in the bands.

I'm thinking if a cutting tool is used to "hard turn" the finished roll bores those serrations would make a horribly interrupted cut.

Maybe if that roll OEM grinds the finished bores having to remove only about 50% as much material is a benefit.

Has anyone seen similar details in difficult to machine materials.
