Low Pressure Versus High Pressure Amine Treating Plant

Hello Everybody:

At this time I'm working in a design of Gas Sweetening Plant based on Amine. However Inlet Gas Pressure is 550 Psig, some vendors have told me that this plant would be very expensive due the fact, the equipments will be so higher and indicated that around 1000 Psig is a best and usual inlet value. What do you think about this? Higher Pressure Plant will not require so higher ratings that can be more expensive?

It all depends on so many things, for example. If the gas is so sour that the compressor added to raise gas pressure to 1000 psig has to be made of exotic alloys, then that added cost offsets the savings of a smaller diameter contractor.

The amount of added reaction and therefore amine loading is not always a significant amount to justify treating at 1000 psig. In general, any pressure over 500 psig is fine. As I pointed out above, treating at 75 psig can save huge amounts on compressor costs.
