does anyone know a way to show a perforated metal pattern on a solid object that does not result in enormous file sizes? Any help would be greatly appreciated

What I have done in the past is to not actually make the holes in a solid, but rather trace the part in Layout, then use bhatch to make it look like it is perforated. I use the "Hex" pattern and it looks pretty good. You may have to change the scale and angle to perfect it.
