I'm attempting to help a graduate student locate a source of the #2 hot-rolled 60ksi deformed rebar that he wishes to use for building concrete models to test. I suggested using #3 but he says their equipment won't handle models of that size.

I remember there was a supplier in the 80's that had this product (mostly sold to Universities doing State/Fed research). Anyone know of a source?

#2 rebar would be 1/4" diameter bars correct? With an area of about 0.05 sq. inches?

If so and you can't find pure #2 bars, you might consider deformed wire. A D5 wire has a diameter of 0.252 inches and an area of 0.05 sq. inches.
Deformed wire used to be under ASTM A496 but is now under a new spec - ASTM A1064 Link
