Hello everybody,

I'm currently running some simulations on a sheet metal assembly. This assembly consist of approximately 10 parts and is not all that heavy. When I try to start the study it takes Solidworks about 10 to 15 minutes to start the solver. During this time Solidworks does not appear to do anything. Only noticeable thing that it’s doing something is the fact that the cursor shows a spinning “loading” wheel. And if I click within Solidworks the program will freeze. When I look at the process tab on the Windows task manager I can see that Solidworks is barely using any more RAM than it’s using when just displaying the model (400k kB). Anybody who can tell me what is going on here? When I run a simulation on a single part or a lightweight assembly the solver pops up in no time (few seconds).
Thanks in advance,

Robin

I don't use SW simulation but it could be that SW is seeding the parts for the meshing. Just a thought.

Dear DanStro,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately that's not the case. Meshing is done before you start the study.

Did you try posting on the solidworks forum? Jared at will surely respond to a simulation question. I have noticed this on some of the larger models with a large number of degrees of freedom.

Hello Everybody,

Thank you for the reply's. it appears that this indeed has to do with the lager numbers of freedom. Similar assemblies with lesser degrees of freedom start the studies a lot faster.

Thanks,

Robin
