I need to laser cut a quite complicated logo/graphic into a part. I have the original vector graphic file and can export to just about any format. I tried the Insert Sketch Picture and subsequent Trace in SWX 2008 but its next to useless in resolution/accuracy.

I searched here and came up with this:
http://www.mcadcentral.com/solidworks/forum/forum_posts.asp? TID=839&KW=logo+engraving
It will leave me with a big clean up and re-sketching task... :o(

Before I dive into it for xx hours I just wanted to hear if anyone has any other pointers or things to try?

there is a tutorial in solidworks titled import/export

have you seen this?

Just an idea:

Export your grafic file as .dwg (Autocad format). Then you can import easily, in SW,the logo sketch to make the cut.

Good luck !

Allright, thanks. I ended up exporting the vector file to DXF and importing that to a sketch. Left me with a load of splines (+3000) that I could then draw another (repaired) sketch on top of with Convert Entity & some lines and arcs. Very complicated logo, took about 2 hrs but came out really good.
