Local Flange Failure

I am trying determine the flange capacity for an I-beam with a traveling trolly hoist / crane?

This is a 4 point load that will be applied from each of the trolly wheels. The capacity of the trolly crane is 4,000 lbs and is hanging from a W8x15 wide flange beam.

Can you please help me determine the capacity of the flange (for local failure).

I noticed in your spread sheet the allowable deflections for the simple span of a monorail is listed at L/450.

In CMAA the allowable deflections are listed at L/600 in section 3.5.5.1.

Am I missing something? Thanks.

I agree that it should be L/600
I use L/450 for cantilevers and jib arms.

This is one of Tomanovich's spreadsheets.

Maybe he could be contacted?
 
our standard use L/450 for monorail longer than 46 feet. i havent done any research where it came from. have you checked AISC 9th editon?
