The freely floating ship or barge has six degrees of motion: heave, sway, surge, pitch, yaw, roll (
Assuming a floating barge will be held restrained by fixing it to a verical structure by means of two beams welded at both barge's ends and anchored to the structure while in the water.

How to calculate the design loads at these two connections to hold the floating dock in fixed position while in water. Assume the barge dimensions are 20'length X 8' width X 5'depth. The barge is partially submerged (1' draft, 4' freeboard), the water level will be constant. How to quantify the motions above into loads..

I'll appreciate your feedback.. Thanks

There are sophisticated programs to solve for all these forces - OptiMoor comes to mind.

I can't picture your means of securing the barge to the vertical structure so I'm no help there.

Remember that these loads will operate 24/7 so consider fatigue in your design.
