I am working on a loading dock that needs to be renovated due to trucks getting stuck. The profile of the dock is as follows:

Ramp from street to level section 1' rise in 5 feet. Level section for approximately 12'. Ramp down at approx 5% to dock. Want to remove level section to prevent trucks from getting stuck. Is there a maximum grade change that will prevent the trucks from getting stuck. I was looking at ramping from street approximately 16' at 6%. Then tie into existing ramp which is slope 5% down to the dock. That is a change of grade of 11% is this too much?

Draw the profile on CADD and overlay the truck. That's the quickest way to get an "empirical" answer to your question. Robert Weber, EI
