Dear Members,

I am trying to put together a procedure for inspecting parts for surface cracking, liquid penetrant in particular. I would like to know if someone can guide me to the source for a step by step procedure.

Is ASTM E165 a good source for this? I don't have the standard but I'll buy it if it has, in fact, what I'm looking for.

have a great week,
toriche

Depends on whom you are trying to satisfy with your procedure. E165 has general procedure "flowsheets" addressing the basic elements but ASME V Article 6 is more comprehensive in defining the contents of a procedure as is EN 571-1.

As Sjones said, it depends upon what spec you are trying to meet. If it is ASME, Section V is the rule. If not, order ASTM Volume 03.03 containing all of the standards applicable to NDT and PT. There are about eight of them for PT.
