Linux programs compatable with AutoCAD

I have decided that Bill Gates has enough of my money and am trying to evaluate Linux. (Specificially Red Hat Linux 7.2)

I have found several programs that claim to be fully autocad compatable and run on linux.

Based on prior experence with shareware autocad programs I am doubtful. (One program actually converted my DWG files to their format without telling me, or backing up the files and their format was no longer AutoCAD compatable.)

Does anyone have any experence with these programs?

There are several packages out there that have the capability to import export either .dxf or .dwg files on the Linux platform.
The best product you'll find will probably be VariCad which supports .iges, .dwg., and .dwf files in 2D or 3D. A really nice package if you want an AutoCad replacement. You might want to recompile your kernal first to get some added performance.
If you are looking for the best 3D modler then you need to try CASCADE. Other then that There are several modling engines out for Linux.
CYCAS is another good full featured 2D-3D Cad package. Has excellent documentation and photorealistic rendering.
Qcad is a little simpler, but gets the job done and is pretty fast. It uses .dxf as it's native format
Octree is another package designed for architects, but I have never tried it. Last time I took a look at it, it wasn't finished.
