Linking to part properties

I'm trying to link to the property SW-Volume in a drawing, but I want to make it part of my template thats used for a large number of parts.

Unfortunately simply linking to "SW-Volume" in a drawing doesnt work, but doing "SW-Volume@nameofthepart.prt" does work.

I know I can create a custom property in the part file, that will allow me to link to whatever I want, but I don't want to have to open 500 part files to add a custom property = =

Is there a way to link together "SW-Volume" and "SW-File Name" to trick solidworks to read it as "SW-Volume@SW-File Name" ?

The annotation in the drawing template should be linked to $PRPSHEET:"Volume"

1 more question, is there a way to force the formatting of the value it returns, ex unit in^3, 4 decimal places, in case the document properties are different?

Open the part model and go to Tools > Options > Document Properties > Units and set the Mass/Section Properties > Length option to the desired decimal places.

Yeah, but what I want to know is if there is a way to convert to units in the sheet without touching the part file?

If you do the xfer with a macro, yes.
