linking properties

I'm having problems linking custom properties in some sheet formats I'm setting up, I'll make one property equal to $PRP:"SW-Short Date", and it will work correctly, but if I save the sheet format, and use it in another drawing, when it loads, it loads whatever $PRP:"SW-Short Date" evaluated to at the time sheet format was saved, and not $PRP:"SW-Short Date". Anyone have any clue?
