Linking BOM qty to Instances in a assembly?

Typically we work on a project by project basis. We do detail drawings for each component in that project.

If I have a detail drawing linked to a part or subassembly file, I can get the qty linked for each individual component in that subassembly.

I would like to add another column for total qty, but have that column linked back to the master assembly somehow.

Is this possible or am I asking to much.
By the way my VAR is stumped on this one.

Thanks in advance.

You can have multiple BOMs per sheet, but each BOM can only reference one assy or part.

To my knowledge you cannot have one column of a BOM read from one assy, and another column read from a different assy.

You could put a view of the master assembly on the drawin. Create a BOm linked to that assembly and then hide the view. That's a messy sort of work around.

cadnutcase ... which BOM type are you using (Excel or SW table)?
If Excel, there is a way you can use data from one BOM into another, but it involves creating an intermediate spreadsheet. However that spreadsheet will not be automatically updated if the assy it was derived from changes.

What if I don't have to put it in a BOM.
By the way I am using a SW bom.

Cor,
That could be an ok work around for now.

Thanks

Somehow I need to find a way to link the qty of a particular part or subassembly to a property in the master assembly.
If I find something I will post it up here.
