Hi everybody!
I have two related questions. I am currently adding a dry sump with the oil tank in the trunk for better weight distribution. I need some advice, or methodology, or benchmarks how to determine the optimal oil line sizes.
Also, in the future, I may want to put a radiator in the trunk too, also for weight distribution and to increase the air flow in the front for the intercooler. So I will have to figure those line sizes too, but that is later down the road.
The engine is a V6 turbo with rod and piston squirters. Not sure about the actual flow though the engine, but the pump is capable of pumping about 12 gallons/min at 2500rpm of the pump. It is geared down at 67% the crank speed. The stock oil cooler lines are only about 8mm (0.315") on the ID, but the new dry sump fittings are AN12 (15mm or 0.591" ID). And the scavenge out fitting is AN16 (21mm or 0.827" ID)!!!
That's one HUGE and heavy AN16 hose to run to the trunk!
Any ideas if I should make those lines smaller right away, or you think they are sized okay? And once on the car, how would you tell if they are too large or too small?
Thank you in advance.
