Attempting to change line font in sketch mode using line format toolbar, but the selections are transparrent and unselectable. Is there a remedy for this?

Select the elements to be changed first. The toolbar options should then become selectable.
Seems like you're in part mode that's why you're seeing the options transparrent and un-selectable. So as CBL suggested, you need to select an entity and then the option will be available.
