Hello, im designing lifting Trunnions to lift a PV, we would normally have lifting lugs but client has specified Trunnions.
Its a horizontal vessel so 4 trunnions each with a pad.
Now the arrangment is like a set on flange with the pipe being welded directly to the shell using a full pen weld then the pad added also with an full pen weld on the inside and a fillet weld around the outside.
Trying to get my head round how to work out the weld stresses. I think I need to consider the pipe being set on the pad and assessing it where it meets the pad and then assessing the pad where it is welded to the shell but im not 100% sure.
Also where would you take the measurment fot the weld, on a fillet weld I would normally measure it accross the throat of the weld but its not that streight forwards I dont think with the full pen welds on the inside.
Thanks in advance
