Question #1
If you stop paying your yearly subscription fee for SWorks, how long can you use the software if you leave it at its current revision? Indefinitely? or will the license stop working after a while (it is a network license)?

Question #2
If your subscription lapses for a year or two do you have to buy new seats when you need more or is there another way to get your seats back like paying back subscription costs for those past years that were missed.

Thanks

1. Indefinitely. You just don't get any updates and do not get any support.
2. You don't need to purchase a new seat. I think you can just start the service, but I don't know if there is a fee for start up.

1) I believe indefinitely, though I'm not too sure about SNLs.

2) You do not have to buy new seats, but you will have to pay a renewal (penalty) fee on top of the normal subscription.

1. SNLs are indefinitely supported too, however keep in mind there is a dongle (hardware lock). Future PC hardware may not support it (unlikely that would happen for at least 10 years). As you approach the end of your subscription, SolidWorks will send you an e-mail that your subscription is about to expire.

Also, keep in mind that as of 2007 sp 3.x there is an installation manager that (by default) will attempt to install any updates. After your subscription runs out, you will not be able to get any updates. Period.

The previous EULA allowed for service pack updates even after your subscription expired. So be sure to download all your service packs before youre subscription expires.

For those who don't buy subscription (foolish), you're out of luck.

2.) Yes, you need to pay a fee to get back onto subscription. As of now, it does not matter what version you are upgrading from. The fee is the same. It is significantly less than a new seat.

An interesting aside; if you do not sign up for support when you originally purchase a seat, there is no fee to start the support subscription in the future other than the yearly subscription cost, no matter how long you have had the seat. The subscription then intitles you to the latest and greatest version. My VAR quoted me this.

With the text file the expiration is usually 2099. SO it shouldn't expire, but if it does, then you will have to contact your VAR for a new one, but one that only supports the expired copy.

You have to pay a fee if it lapses, but you don't have to buy any new seats.

If we do let our subscriptions lapse, does anyone know what the return to subscription fee might be? Approximately?

OK, so if I had 10 seats and I only wanted to continue subscription for 5, until the workload picks back up, could I do that? Or is it all or nothing?

In other words, is it either, you have a subscription or you don't regardless of your seat count?

You could get subs for 5 I think, but only 5 of those seats will be updated to the latest, the other will not get updated.

If on SNL, it might more difficult to get that option, because the text file would have to be changed, but I still think its possible with of course a fee.
