Does your engineering firm's professional liability insurance carrier supply or have specific requirements for standard contracts to be used in general work??

I'm curious....

Yes. The big three, CNA, XL and now Beasly (Lloyds of London sub) all have suggested contract language in their education packages, since providing this information to their clients in in their best interest.

XL even has a monetary incentive program that provides premium discounts for taking a prof. liability examination and for including a limit of liability clause in your client contracts.

abusementpark....as LobstaEata noted, most have some level of contract assistance, mostly in the form of standard paragraphs to use in your general conditions of your contract. I had XL insurance for a several years before changing to another carrier (for cost reasons). They have some very good contract language help.

I don't know of any of them that provide you an exemplar contract with all the necessary language. The Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC) has standard contracts that are similar to AIA documents, but more geared to engineers.

You could also do what everyone else does...pirate one! I'll save you a little trouble by attaching our standard contract and a short course on reviewing contracts. Enjoy!

abusementpark...glad to help...I know how it is. Fortunately my stint in corporate engineering world for 22 years taught me a lot about liability and contracts.
