Lead wall isolation

We intend to install a split - type air conditioner in the x - ray room of a hospital. The walls are insolated with a lead plaque to inhibit radiation leak.
Need some info about regulations concerning perforation of the wall for the brass connection tubes between the 2 parts of the equipment. Is a 3" hole safe regarding radiation loss when the x - ray machine operates?

"... that the overall protection of the barrier is not impaired"

Seems as if you have to shadow every hole with protection.
