I'm investigating the failure of a cast iron bell and spigot water main with lead and oakum joints. Pipe settlement caused joint rotation resulting in a bell fracture. Has anyone observed lead squeezed or pushed out of this type of joint or analyzed lead squeeze mechanics including creep versus time?
