anyone running without an approved video card with good results?
I also would like to know which lcd to go with?
wuxga?
wsxga?

right
now carrying around 17" alienware to customers, too heavy, too short

Dell M70. If you don't care about portability at all get the M90. Both are available with 1920x1200 screens and fast nvidia quadro cards.

I bought mine off the dell refurb site. Sometimes the savings are phenominal, other times it cost more than spec'ing it new.

M70 has serious problems with the dreaded BSOD. It's well-documented on the Dell site forum and has been my personal experience.

The problem is worse *after* applying the Dell fix.

My vote: Anything but a Dell M70. When it's running alright - it's great. The BSODs just pop up way too frequently to be tolerable.

Begger,

Thanks for the heads up. I've seen a few lockups that I would attribute to overheating (sitting on the couch with the computer in my lap), but overall I've been pretty happy.

What drivers are you running?
