Does anyone have experience with the Kaeser Omega positive displacement blowers for biogas use? Our main concerns are corrosion and fire/explosion hazards. We do know that Roots blowers are used for biogas use but we have located a used Omega that appears well-sized for our application.

A standard blower is not going to be acceptable for biogas use because of the condensation and corrosive gases present.

Any part of a component that contacts the biogas stream should be stainless steel or be coated, if possible. Special coatings are also used on equipment in biogas systems. These coatings are less expensive than stainless steel, but it must be assured that the coating will provide sufficient protection against biogas corrosion.

Kaser makes a good blower, but you will have to modify the standard blower for use on biogas.

Got ahold of this thread late. But thought I would post anyway.

The Robuschi ROBOX evolution BIOGAS range has been developed for the conveying and compression of biogas, as well as natural and landfill gases in power generation plants.

The heart of the ROBOX evolution BIOGAS models consists of a lobe blower – RBS range – in the special gas-tight version. In addition, the unit is fitted with a inlet silencer and the platform balance of the discharge silencer is in galvanised steel; ATEX version non-return valve; tool panel with diaphragm pressure gauges and delivery thermostat.

Apart from the standard version, able to operate in conditions of absolute safety in the ATEX environment, Robuschi can also supply ROBOX evolution BIOGAS with several optional components, to satisfy all biogas system requirements. The tool panel can be equipped with a safety pressure gauge. The inlet silencer and discharge platform balance can be supplied in stainless steel. And that's not all: the noise enclosure can be of the ATEX version, fitted with a condensate drainage device, and you can also choose an anti-corrosion device for the rotors and the components of the compression chamber. The pressure regulator with its by-pass is also available in the ATEX version, or with a 3-way relief valve with channelled discharge.

The entire Robuschi BIOGAS range is certified and suitable for applications of group II in category 2 for area 1, both indoors and outdoors, and for temperatures of class T3 (based on the ATEX standard). The platform balance and inlet silencer are also PED certified (Pressure Equipment Directive, the European directive for pressurised containers that eliminate the risk of explosion) for a working pressure of at least 1.3 bar and explosion proof at 12 bar.

The main features of the blower consist of:
1. Gas tight sealing on the driving shaft.
2. Special anti-corrosion coating protecting all of the blower components in contact with the gas.
3. Explosion proof tested and certified up to 12 Bar.
