hey

does any one know what does the K matrix looks like for six degrees of freedom lumped mass system. I can compute the K matrix up to three degrees of freedom..I am a bit confused i dont know the matrix i got is right..can anyone help or direct me on how to compute the K matrix..

if you dont know what i am talking about.. i mean the K matrix which looks like this for two degree of freedom system

K = [k1+k2 -k2
-k2 k2]

There are many texts out which have good chapters on multi-degree of freedom systems. Many have multi-story buildings as examples with some up to 5 or more stories. My suggestion is to look for these books.

Authors include:

Chopra
Penzien/Clough
Paz
Craig
Berg
Naziem

Helpful to draw deflected shape for each degree of freedom. It will help you visualize it. All other degrees of freedom are locked except the one you put a unit displacement on. If you can do 3 degree of freedom, 6 degree is really no different...
