This morning while stuck on the freeway in Los Angeles, I looked up and noted an item I've seen for a long time and could never figure out it's purpose. Hopefully one of you transmission experts can explain this curious structure.
Well structure isn't quite right, ...On some transmission lines, looks to be something over 110 kV, but I've seen them an multiple voltages-are a series of what appear to be inflated bladders on what seem to be high tension guy wires at the top of transmission line structures spans. They appear between a couple of structures, but not on adjacent spans, then they may appear again after several spans. What are these "balloons"?
Just another piece of useless knowledge I can't be without.
Thank you,
EEJaime
