As most of you have probably figured out by now, I am the editor of Pile Buck, amongst my other activities.

Pile Buck is trying to get going again. One issue of the newspaper is going to press and we are working on yet another. Do any of you have a jobsite story that you might want published there? You can use the contact form at vulcanhammer.net to get a hold of me if you like.

Also, if memory serves me correctly one of the long term purposes of this forum was to start some kind of an outlet to publish papers. If there is enough interest in this, it's possible to use vulcanhammer.net to make this a reality. So let me know your thoughts on that as well.

That's great. Wish you luck. Where do you go for subscription information? Will the new sheeting manual and pile driving manual be available in print? How is the early response?

Best way to get subscription information is by going to pilebuckinternational.com and contacting the owner (Sarah Smoot) through the little email button at the bottom of the page. This may be a "work in progress;" she is getting things going again and I'm not sure how subscriptions are being handled at this instant. The two manuals will go to print depending upon resources available (needless to say, the business had hit bottom at the transfer of ownership.) Early response is good.

Yes to both points. We had some interest in an electronic journal and then well, I suppose, we all got a bit busy. I would be pleased to publish a few job site articles; however, we have a corporate 'hurdle' to go through. I'll start looking into it as well.

Would that be part of Pilebuck or a different journal? In the former case, would it be possible to include some articles on topics other than foundation piles and jobsite stories?

Sorry, but I never came across a Pilebuck issue

I'm thinking about an online outlet for these through vulcanhammer.net. It's possible to have articles appear in both. Pile Buck has traditionally preferred more practical material. (Don't forget that Pile Buck also is very active with marine construction as well.) This is one reason why, when I published my most recent paper I decided to do it at vulcanhammer.net.

Pile Buck back issues can be found at

Don,
I read your presentation, interesting stuff, I didn't know the system was originally developed in the former Soviet Union. Sad story indeed the one about Lev Erofeev. Authorities were far from environmentally keen, that's a known fact.

I also browsed a pilebuck issue, definitely specialistic, but I have some ideas which might be interesting, related to the calcs required by the new European Eurocode7 regulations for deep foundations (model adopted by Australia, Japan, China, maybe Russia itself among the others).

Next year I plan to start at last writing something. How about a comparison between the Eurocode7 and North American LRFD (the latter to tell the truth I have yet to research) guidelines?

I think that this is a splendid idea.
