Istalling SW 2007 Premium

Hello everyone,

I have installed SW 2007 Premium and now when I start the program, after I click on the button to begin a new part/assy/dwg, I get the following error message:

"Some folders specified in the file locations for document templates do not exist, do you want them to be removed from the list?" This is followed by a Yes/No, and I click No because I don't want to delete anything that I need.

Does anyone know what exactly this means, and is there a specific list that should be there?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You probably need to relink the Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations.

Thanks for your input. I check to see the links, and the following are listed:

Folders for Document Templates:

C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\data\templates
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\Tutorial

Under the templates, I have a part, assy, and drawing file available.

However, I do not have a Tutorial folder available. When installing, I chose to install to a SolidWorks 2007 folder under Program Files, and I do have a tutorial folder there. Should I redirect that one? If so, should I delete the other tutorial link?

Yes, redirect to the one you need. The current one can stay if you like, or remove it ... up to you.

Neither ... you should create a folder OUTSIDE of the Program Files folder so that when you upgrade SW, you do not lose any custom files you create. Same goes for all file locations listed.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your message. I actually tried that, so now I have one going to the SolidWorks folder, and another going to the SolidWorks 2007 folder. When I try to create a new part again, I get the same error message. Should I restart the computer first? Is it possible having a SolidWorks and SolidWorks 2007 folder conflict with each other? I did have SW 2005 installed, but uninstalled that prior to installing SW 2007.

Hi CorBlimeyLimey,

So you're saying that I should redirect to a folder outside of the Program Files folder? I do have some custom templates for doing the drawings, so I see what you mean. Regarding the files that would be in the SolidWorks\data\templates and SolidWorks\lang\english\Tutorial locations, how do I know which files to copy outside the Program Files location? Should I just put all the files in 1 folder, and have them both be redirected to that 1 folder?

I see. Yes, per CBL, create a folder and copy files there. Redirect them, restart SW.

Also make sure you are in "Advanced" mode and not "Novice". You can tell because in the bottom left corner it will say "novice" that means you are in the advanced mode. This away you can select the tabs at the top and select what ever template you need to use. It allows you to select custom templates if you have made any.

Hi Ctopher and CBL,

I'm getting ready to redirect the files, but just wanted to double check a couple things before beginning.

1. In the Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations, there is a drop down list of things that are directed. Should I redirect everything, or just the document template? The document templates are there, so I don't think this is an issue. I did scroll through the list, and some of them are directed, but some don't show a path at all. I'm thinking those are the ones that need to be directed. Is that correct?

2. Is there a specific list of files that should be in the tutorial? I'm a bit confused since when I click on-line tutorial, everything seems to be working ok.

3. Would a "repair" install resolve this problem?

1) I add file locations for everything in the drop-down. In "My Documents" I have a "Custom SW2007" folder with the relevant sub-folders and re-direct to it. Some of which are empty but exist just in case I want to add custom stuff to it.
You don't have to redirect anything, but it is advisable if you are creating custom versions of the listed files. (Bend Tables, BOMs, Templates, etc).
Also you don't have to delete the existing SW locations.

2) If your Tutorials are working OK, then the list of files in the SW tutorial folder must be OK.

3) Unless you are having other problems with SW, I don't think a repair will do anything.

The "Some folders specified in the file locations for document templates do not exist, do you want them to be removed from the list?" error message you were getting, probably means that at some time custom folders were created in the Program Files folder but have been removed during the recent upgrade.
