Issue extruding with offset (symmetric) 1

I've noticed an issue when extruding with offset. When applying a user created expression with the symmetric offset option the expression is not retained, it just reverts to the numeric value. This is the case whether I'm extruding a single curve or a closed shape. Since I use this method freqently for creating ribs in parts it's important to be able to just change the expression I created to change multiple ribs.
Is there a reason for this or am I overlooking something?

OK, there's an 'undocumented' behavior designed into this particular dialog entry.

Let's say you have a "user defined expression", 'T', which defines the overall rib thickness. When you're ready to enter a 'Symmetric' value, type 'T/2' into ONLY the second or 'End' entry field. This will be the value used by the feature for BOTH the 'Start' and 'End' values, but it will only appear as a SINGLE entry in the list of Expressions.

Thanks John!
The answer was too easy. Probably the last solution I would have looked for.
