Hi Eng-Tips,

I am about to begin a 6-month project looking into the choked flow of gases through small orifices.

After searching through the literature I keep running into the isentropic, adiabatic flow equations shown in the attachment (taken from Kayser (1990) - Discharge Coefficients for Compressible Flow through Small-Diameter Orifices and Convergent Nozzles). The problem is the references given for the complete derivations of these results (Shapiro, Sutton and Emanuel in the attachment) are now all quite old and are not easily (or cheaply!) obtainable here in the Netherlands.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a more up-to-date reference where this work is done, or indeed guide me through the derivation themselves?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Max

A good Engineering University library should have Shapiro.

Good luck,
