Good morning,

I received an operational feedback about the draining method of those filters in MEROX units, but I´m not pretty sure about the safety of that procedure for HDT units.

They´re draining to oily water, it´s open to atmosphere and you can even smell kerosene during this process.

I think that in hidrotreating units it couldn´t be like that.
Diesel stripper operation is usually checked with acetate test, perhaps once per shift.
H2S partition in water/oil clearly shows its preference for aqueous phase.
So, Im concearned if during some imbalance in diesel stripper, it could have H2S accumulation in the brine.

Even if the operator tests for acetate before draining, that won´t give any clue on what happened between each of these tests.

That H2S would be realesed, exposing the operator to some risk.

I´ve looked at OSHAs but didn´t find any report on that. Did anyone has some experience/bad experience about it?

Thank you.
