Hello,
for a pressure vessel as per ASME BPVC section 8 div1. Are we allowed to electropolish AFTER hydrotest has been done ?

regards,

See UG-99(a)(1) for your answer.

wydim, at a previous employer we designed and built a HX that was to be electropolished. As I recall we completed and hydro'd the vessel, broke it down and sent the various pieces to the polishing vendor. After return we reassembled and checked the bolted joints with a low pressure shop air test. This scheme would seem to meet UG-99(a)(1) as to cosmetic grinding.

You'd best check with your AI and perhaps the client, though.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Once you are disassembling the HX, the client needs to check the integrity of the flange joints. This should already be taken care of in the purchase order. If not mentioned, then request the client to carry out a service test before commissioning of the HX.
