I am high-voltage testing a brushless DC motor winding and I am reaching the corona inception voltage near 1500 VAC, as indicated by noise and glowing. I've read through other threads on this topic and its still not clear to me if this "glowing" is a potential ignition source.

Is this something that I should worry about if I operate the motor in the presence of a combustable gas? 1500 VAC is less than 2U + 1000 VAC, where U is my peak operating voltage.

This confirms my fears. Thanks for the help.

I think you figured it out but the answer is :
