Hello gang, I have a solid model that on one end of the part it start in solids but I had to develop the opposite end of the part in surface / quilts. I have a mixture of solids quilts that have been solidified, external copied geometry from other files that came into Pro/E via IGES / Step. these surfaces have been merged and solidified. Now I want to trim the length of the part off. I create a plan that visually passes through the part. I used the solidiy tool, select remove material icon, make sure the area yellow is to be removed. select the CHECK, then the software warns me "Purple surfaces are inverted". Does this mean I have a bad surface / quilt, if so, how to I find and fix.

If the purple surfaces are displayed and you know which surfaces are purple or highlighted when you get this error, there is an command called Invert Surface normal that you can use. I believe this command is found on the Edit menu.

If there are not to many surfaces it will be easy to do. I suspect that the suspect surfaces are part of the quilt you are using for the cut but it sounds as if you are using the plane for this.

You might be able to use the Analysis Surface offset tool and give it a possitive value and then click on the surfaces to see which ones offset in the opposite direction such as into the part. Or you can create an offset surface and keep clicking on different surfaces until you see the offset switch directions.

Mjcole, I have looked in the Edit Menu and I see nothing about "invert Surface normal" Is this command apart of the machining package of Pro/E?
I have WF 2.0 Build M160 Flexc3c package.

Sorry,

The command is Edit -> Flip Normal

Select the surface you want to flip the normal of and then hit Edit-> Flip normal
