We have concrete columns sitting on a mat foundation. We have designed pyramid-shaped "inverted capitals" at the bottom of the columns to help with punching and slab moments, and the application of waterproofing. Canadian standard A23.1 specifies that capitals are to be poured monolithically with the slab, which is relatively easy to pour when the slab is suspended, but is more challenging on top of the mat slab. Does this clause apply when the capital is at the bottom of the column, or can the pyramid-shaped capitals be poured as part of the columns?
Thank you.
