I have a part that is 32 inches long and has many changes in diameter along the way. Each diameter has an angle leading to the next. I am asked to come up with a way to measure these depths accurately (many times). The depth micrometers we have will not work. We are looking at a high production run of these parts and need a reliable and fairly straight-forward way to measure these parts. I do not want us to resort to cutting a part in half everytime we need to check one. Any ideas?

Because the mic won't accurately pick up the angled shoulder? Could you machine a set of plugs that would stop at the shoulder and provide a landing for the end of the depth mic?
