I have read that gray cast iron has "good" damping characteristics. However, I cannot find any numbers to back this up. Does anyone have information on the damping characteristics of gray cast iron and if possible, granite (the type used in surface plates)?

Thanks,
Tony

Refer the ASM Handbook on Cast Iron. It provides qualitative comparison with other light metals.
